Light the Night Walk

First off - THANK YOU to everyone who donated towards the walk! I never even imagined I would actually reach the goal I had set, yet, everyone's generosity actually added up to DOUBLE what I had hoped to raise for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society!! You have no idea how much this meant to me. I am constantly being surprised by the support and comfort being offered by so many. Even when people were unable to spare a few bucks (I of all people totally understand!!!!) many still wrote our family so many kind notes and emails. So THANK YOU.

The Light the Night Walk was held in downtown Lexington this past Saturday night. I was really nervous about taking Ian to the walk as it didn't start until 7:30. However, he ended up falling asleep in his stroller and stayed asleep until we got home!! My good friend Alix and her family also braved the late bedtime with their daughter, Lillie (Ian's "girlfriend"). The weather was perfect, thankfully. There was a live band, free food and activities for older kids. Illuminated balloons were handed out before the walk started. Red was carried by "supporters". Gold "in memory". White for "survivors and patients". It was overwhelming to see the amount of people that had turned out for the walk. Probably a few thousand. It was especially sad to see children running around wearing survivor shirts. There was a huge team of walkers wearing "Logan's crew" shirts - in the middle of their crowd stood a little boy, about 6, wearing the same shirt, but his just said "Logan". Another little girl was still young enough to be pushed around in her stroller. Cancer is so incredibly cruel. I cannot even imagine being that young and literally living in the hospital and being in pain - and not understanding the reason for everything you were being put through. I saw an old man hobbling around with a "Cancer sucks" shirt. Another guy about my age had on a "F*** Cancer" shirt. All very appropriate - especially having been there, done that. It was a very special night and we are continually thankful for everyone in our lives that have been of a tremendous help the past year - both near and far.
